Re: Assistance for Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz, 40288-115

Dear Congressman::

I am writing to ask for your assistance for Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz . He has been incarcerated for almost twenty-two years, serving a sentence of life without parole

Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz has a noteworthy background. As a graduate of Baylor Law School, he was a practicing attorney and Texas gubernatorial candidate in 1972 and 1974. Muñiz brought positive political change for Mexican Americans, Hispanics, Latinos, and many others who lacked a political voice. As a result, he faced several legal problems in 1976 and 1994. In the 1994 indictment, information that would have exonerated him was not given in trial until the end. By then it was too late. The Court counted his 1976 case twice (indicted in two different courts), and enhanced his sentence to life without parole

Muñiz has submitted a Petition for Commutation of Sentence. Deborah Leff, Pardon Attorney, has confirmed receipt of his petition, which is based on his age and health conditions. He is an excellent candidate.  Muñiz is turning 73. He suffers from chronic, debilitating health conditions that could not have been foreseen when he was sentenced in 1994.  He uses a wheelchair more than 80% of the time.  He is not violent, and he has demonstrated good conduct through his incarceration.

National support for Muñiz continues to grow. Organizations, (National LULAC, Mexican American Democrats, Tejano Democrats, the American GI Forum, Friends of Justice), along with United States congressmen, religious leaders, and others have written to President Obama, supporting the efforts of the National Political Campaign to Free Ramsey Muñiz.

Dr. Andres Guerrero, a graduate of Harvard School of Divinity, learned of the imprisonment of Ramsey Muñiz, and visited him at the Leavenworth United States Penitentiary. He is now writing a book on his history, accomplishments, and incarceration.

We need for President Barack Obama to take positive action by granting the immediate release of Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz. This issue is important to many Hispanics throughout the country who recognize Muñiz as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who helped many others. He and his family continue to suffered.

As a congressman who advocates for Hispanics, we ask that you discuss this urgent matter with President Barack Obama, and send letters of support for the freedom of Ramiro Muñiz For additional information, go to www.freeramsey.com.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

Very truly yours,

Your Holiness:
I am writing to extend our deepest gratitude to you for sending prayers and blessings to Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz, who has been unjustly incarcerated for almost 22 years. We thank God for your correspondence, as he has suffered unlike any other because of who he is.
Ramsey Muñiz suffers from an incarceration that has been disregarded for years. He is a good and loving person who graduated from Baylor Law School and became a candidate for governor of Texas during the Civil Rights Movement. Muñiz represented Mexican Americans, Hispanics, Latinos, Chicanos, and others who lacked a political voice. He brought positive change for many. As a result, he suffered imprisonment several times, and he is now in prison for life. Innocence was impossible to prove.
Ramsey Muñiz, a Catholic, has always been spiritual. During his childhood he helped his grandmother to pray for the sick. His faith remains strong today. He maintains faith in God, Jesus Christ, and La Virgen de Guadalupe.
Dr. Andres Guerrero, a graduate of Harvard School of Divinity, learned of the incarceration of Ramsey Muñiz. He visited him at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas. Dr. Guerrero witnessed his immense suffering and today he is writing a book about his life and present incarceration.
We have asked Deborah Leff, Pardon Attorney, to forward the Petition for Commutation of Sentence, submitted by Ramiro R. Muñiz, to President Barack Obama. Muñiz He is 72 years of age, and he suffers from chronic, degenerative health conditions (hip fracture, herniated disc, anemia). He is not violent.
If your schedule were to permit, we would be honored for you to visit Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz. He is at the Federal Correctional Medium Institution in Beaumont, Texas. Your historical visit would represent the first steps toward his freedom, and give hope to thousands of prisoners and families who suffer.
As our spiritual leader, we ask that you speak of this case to President Obama, and write a letter of support asking him to grant the freedom of Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz, 40288-115. To learn more about Muñiz, please visit our website and blog at www.freeramsey.com and www.freeramsey.blogspot.com.
We extend our gratitude and prayers to you for all you have done for humanity.

In spiritual unity with you and God’s family,
