Re: Assistance for Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz, 40288-115
Dear Congressman::
I am writing to ask for your assistance for Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz . He has been incarcerated for almost twenty-two years, serving a sentence of life without parole
Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz has a noteworthy background. As a graduate of Baylor Law School, he was a practicing attorney and Texas gubernatorial candidate in 1972 and 1974. Muñiz brought positive political change for Mexican Americans, Hispanics, Latinos, and many others who lacked a political voice. As a result, he faced several legal problems in 1976 and 1994. In the 1994 indictment, information that would have exonerated him was not given in trial until the end. By then it was too late. The Court counted his 1976 case twice (indicted in two different courts), and enhanced his sentence to life without parole
Muñiz has submitted a Petition for Commutation of Sentence. Deborah Leff, Pardon Attorney, has confirmed receipt of his petition, which is based on his age and health conditions. He is an excellent candidate. Muñiz is turning 73. He suffers from chronic, debilitating health conditions that could not have been foreseen when he was sentenced in 1994. He uses a wheelchair more than 80% of the time. He is not violent, and he has demonstrated good conduct through his incarceration.
National support for Muñiz continues to grow. Organizations, (National LULAC, Mexican American Democrats, Tejano Democrats, the American GI Forum, Friends of Justice), along with United States congressmen, religious leaders, and others have written to President Obama, supporting the efforts of the National Political Campaign to Free Ramsey Muñiz.
Dr. Andres Guerrero, a graduate of Harvard School of Divinity, learned of the imprisonment of Ramsey Muñiz, and visited him at the Leavenworth United States Penitentiary. He is now writing a book on his history, accomplishments, and incarceration.
We need for President Barack Obama to take positive action by granting the immediate release of Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz. This issue is important to many Hispanics throughout the country who recognize Muñiz as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who helped many others. He and his family continue to suffered.
As a congressman who advocates for Hispanics, we ask that you discuss this urgent matter with President Barack Obama, and send letters of support for the freedom of Ramiro Muñiz For additional information, go to www.freeramsey.com.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
Very truly yours,
