          Re:  Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz, 40288-115

Dear Secretary Clinton:

I am writing on behalf of the National Political Campaign to Free Ramsey Muñiz, asking that you support our efforts to obtain the immediate release of Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz. This national campaign supported by hundreds of Hispanics throughout the country is in support of Muñiz, a good and spiritual man who is recognized for his contributions to humanity.

Ramsey Muñiz graduated from Baylor University School of Law and became a candidate for governor of Texas. He represented Mexican Americans, Hispanics, Latinos, Chicanos, and others who lacked a political voice. He and others brought about positive change for many. As a result, Muñiz has suffered politically-motivated imprisonment. Today he is serving a life sentence.

Muñiz has submitted a Petition for Commutation of Sentence through the Office of the Pardon Attorney. The petition is in progress and we have not yet received word of it having been reviewed.

A different application, an Application for Compassionate Release, has been submitted by Muñiz. The application was sent to the National Inmate Appeals Administrator at the Office of General Counsel in Washington, D.C. Muñiz is 73 years of age. He has deteriorating medical conditions and he spends 90% of his time in a wheelchair. He has no history of violence.

Andres Guerrero, Th.D., Harvard School of Divinity, learned of the incarceration of Ramsey Muñiz and he visited him at the United States Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas. Dr. Guerrero witnessed his suffering, and he is now writing a book about his life and present incarceration.

As a long-time defender of civil and human rights, we ask that you support our efforts to return Ramsey Muñiz to his family who has stood by him for 22 years. The National Political Campaign to Free Ramsey Muñiz and Hispanics throughout the country hope to share word of your support in this humanitarian issue, and we await your reply.

                                                    Sincerely,
